The Big Bear Zoo or Moonridge Animal Park (aka ZOO) is operated by the San Bernardino Parks & Recreation in Big Bear Lake. The FOMZ (Friends of the Moonridge Zoo) is working toward evolving the Zoo to become the San Bernardino County Big Bear Zoological Park.
What is the opening hours of the Big Bear Zoo or Moonridge Animal Park?
The Big Bear Zoo or Moonridge Animal Park is open year round. From June to August, the Big Bear Zoo or Moonridge Animal Park is open daily from 10am to 5pm. From September to May, the Big Bear Zoo or Moonridge Animal Park is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm and 10am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
How much is the Big Bear Zoo or Moonridge Animal Park ‘s admission?
Admission to the Big Bear Zoo or Moonridge Animal Park is $5 for adults and children age 11 and over. Admission is $4 for Children age 3 to 10 and seniors (60+). Children under 3 years old get in for free. Parking around the Big Bear Zoo or Moonridge Animal Park is about $5 for a few hours.

Big Bear has a small but memorable zoo called the Moonridge Animal Park (also known as the Big Bear Zoo). The Big Bear Zoo or Moonridge Animal Park was founded in 1959, and it is one of only two Alpine zoos in the United States!

The Big Bear Zoo or Moonridge Animal Park has alot of animals and wildlife for its size. As you stroll through the Big Bear Zoo or Moonridge Animal Park, you’ll meet some of these extraordinary animals, such as:

The Grizzly family

Mama Tutu, a “three strikes bear,” and

her 9year-old cubs, Ayla and Harley.

They were rescued from death in 1996 by the Friends of the Moonridge Zoo (FOMZ). These bears are the first grizzlies to set foot in Big Bear since 1906, when the last grizzly was shot.
Other popular exhibits include three mountain lion sisters, who came to the zoo in 2002, at the age of 4-months, after their mother was shot, and an endangered snow leopard on loan from the American Zoo Association Species Survival Plan.
Other inhabitants include wildlife native to the surrounding mountains such as: coyotes, bobcats, raccoons, black bears, eagles, owls, hawks, and more.
At the Big Bear Zoo or Moonridge Animal Park, you will meet unusual animals like the wood bison, fishers, ringtail cats, and coatimundis. Visit the reptile house and walk-in flight aviary with its own waterfall.
