Big Bear, they’d settle for the cheapest econo-room within driving distance of the slopes… Which unfortunately can lead to a bad opinion of any ski resort & town.
A trip to Big Bear without sleeping in a Big Bear Cabin is like going to Paris and never spotting the Eiffel Tower. It would simply be an incomplete trip.
Most ski resorts, especially great little towns with so much to offer like Big Bear does, has something for everyone in the family. More importantly, they offer something to appreciate every hour of your stay, as well.
To sleep at an economy hotel in Big Bear would be the same thing as skipping half of your vacation. Sure you could still have great fun on the slopes, but what about after the sun goes down? There’d be no marshmallows around the log fireplace, no cozy lofts with lots of open, fresh air, no spotting wildlife out your bedroom window, and most importantly, no snuggling on the bear-skinned rug!
The culture of the Big Bear cabin nightlife is as intoxicating as the scenery itself. Passing that part of your vacation by, in ANY ski resort, would leave you with a vacation worth much less than the price of the gas it took to drive you there.
So what is there to do? Surely you wouldn’t think that I’d write this article just to give you some bad news, would you?
There is one little secret Big Bear has been pretty silent about during its rapid popularity growth. Since the location of Big Bear is just a short drive from so many millions of people in Los Angeles and Orange counties, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the majority of the traffic is made up of weekend family vacations.

What you are about to read could save you hundreds of dollars on your next vacation to Big Bear, California.
The world-class Big Bear ski resort near San Bernardino, California is composed of two excellent ski slopes and a rustic mountain town perched at 7,000 feet above sea level, on the shore of an incredibly scenic, blue lake.
Everyone in Los Angeles, San Diego, and the rest of Southern California often thinks fondly about Big Bear. It is the only ski resort in Southern California, and no one has every thought of opening up a second one. They got the recipe just right when the put the amazing little town of Big Bear together, and between the shopping, skiing, boating, and nightlife, there’s something for everyone do to in Big Bear.
Unfortunately, I’m really not trying to boast on Big Bear here… I mean this as problem statement, not a sales pitch!
All of this popularity in a small town has led to one undeniable conclusion: It’s getting crowded in Big Bear.
It used to be that if you wanted to stay in a big bear cabin during ski season (November through April) it was a wise precaution to book ahead, paying in advance.
Now it’s almost necessary to do so, and even in the summertime you may need to do so too!
