North shore village
Several other names were temporarily chosen for the North Shore village. Example of names for North Shore village were bald eagle valley, cline miller, Big Bear village, Oso Grande and Grout Bay. However these names for the North Shore village were short lived. Throughout the 1900s a lot of controversy occurred that resulted in a civil war between the north and south, shores that is the San Bernadino county board of supervisors issued a cease firing and settled the dispute with approving the name of Fawnskin. There are rumors that if the city officers had known that within a few years the eagles would return to the valley, Fawnskin might have been called Bold eagle village.
Businesses in Fawnskin
Over the years businesses have sprung up appealing to the tourists and the locals of Fawnskin and Big Bear areas. The fawn lodge and north shore tavern were favorite dining and entertainment establishments. Attractions in Fawnskin include boating, fishing, and camping at Big Bear Lake.
The return of the Golden Eagles and Bold Eagles, National Birds
Eagle habitats have been designated for annual return of the golden and bald eagles. The national birds have recently been released from the endangered list. The eagles winter from October until march nesting in trees near the lakeshore. The discovery center on North shore drive of Big Bear Lake have tours and information about Golden Eagles and Bald Eagles.
Fawnskin
Fawnskin is a little town north of Big Bear Lake. Fawnskin is home of the do dah parade.

History of Fawnskin and Fawn Skin
The history of Fawnskin began in the 1800s. Travellers came to the valley (which is now Big Bear Valley and Fawnskin) on rough road by stage coach and later motorcar. Travellers found Fawnskin very attractive because of Fawnskin ’s mountain terrain. Fawnskin was also a great attraction to vacationers that found the mountain terrain a wonderful retreat from city life. Several hundred homes were built in Fawnskin. Among travellers to Fawnskin were goldminers, lodgers and hunters. They were scattered throughout the Holcomb valley which was very active in the 1800s.
The history of Fawnskin noted that in 1891 hunters were so captivated with the meadow grasses where they set up camp. The grasses were as soft and gentle as a fawn’s skin. Thus, the area became known as Fawn Skin. Later Fawn Skin became known as Fawnskin.
