Big Bear California Lodging

Question: How to get to nearby snow / ski / snowlodge areas from LA -without a car ?
Ok I don’t have a car and would like to go to some of the nearby snow areas (wherever, mammoth, big bear, anywhere) because i’ve never done that in southern California. My first interest would be to figure out if there is a direct bus or metro or anything that goes from los angeles (I live in santa monica, but could get myself to downtown or wherever to make this bus). Perhaps a sports store or ski lodge has a direct route in the mornings and evenings? IF not, then any other public transport that you know of, something i can do for a day trip, even if a couple of buses or so ?? I’m interested in taking my parents up, maybe just hang out in the snow, have some hot chocolate or something, doesn’t need to be a ski place specifically. Thanks for the detailed info!
Answer: It totally depends upon which specific area you want to go to as each location will require different travel options. Starting from Santa Monica a Blue Bus #10 express to Downtown would be the first step regardless. Then for example, from LA to Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead you can simply take a Metrolink train to San Bernardino then an MAT (Mountain Area Transit) bus to Big Bear & Lake Arrowhead. For Mammoth, Take a Metrolink Train from LA to Lancaster, then an ESTA (Eastern Sierra transit) bus to Mammoth. Not too hard but check individual websites for exact times & fares. Good Luck!
