Question: Going Camping and need info on do’s and don’ts in regards to BEARS…..Can You Help?

We are going camping next week in the Big Bear Mountians of California. A friend of mine has freaked me out with all of these stories about bears coming in the camp grounds and causing trouble…………..
Any info will help……….like what has to be put away and what can stay out.

Thank You in advance

Answer: Most California state camp grounds where there is a population of bears….have bear boxes….USE THEM.

I have seen the results of stuff locked up in a car, as mentioned before DO NOT LOCKE any food products up in your car….anywhere.

Make sure your camp site is clean and all cooking material has been cleaned up real good, and everything deposed of PROPERLY this means using the bear proof trash cans as well as the bear proof storage boxes.
If you have a doubt in your mind, do it again to make sure.
Bears have a keen sense of smell.

DO NOT LEAVE any fish remains, grease, etc. or the smell of fish around the camp… Your big concern with the bears is going to be at night not that much so during the day time.

Where ever you go stop by the ranger station, and pick up the literature on bear prevention or camping with bears.
They will have some kind of information for all campers, IF there is a problem with bears.

You can also click this link and it should give you plenty of reading material http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1T4GFRC_enUS205US205&q=camping+%26+bears
